Nigerians will move against increase in fuel price – NUPENG warns FG

An oil workers union, NUPENG, says the Federal Government should not succumb to pressure from some groups to increase pump price of petrol for now.

Tokunbo Korodo, the South-West Chairman of the union, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Lagos.

Mr. Korodo said that there was pressure on the government to increase the pump price of petrol from some groups.

He said that any increase in the price of petrol at this time would be resisted by the labour unions.

According to him, any adjustment of the pump price will give the current administration a bad name with the challenges Nigerians are facing.

He urged government to fix the economic challenges by selling off its unviable assets, adding that the masses were going through rough times.

The NNPC on Monday debunked rumours of plan to increase the pump price of petrol.

Garba Deen Muhammad, Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division of NNPC, said the corporation was not empowered to increase prices of fuel.
