Ondo election: Mass exodus hits PDP, AD

Ahead of the governorship election in Ondo State, no fewer than one thousand supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Oke-Agbe, Local Government headquarters of Akoko North West, at the weekend, pitched their tents with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors were led by their leaders, a chieftain of PDP, Hon. Gabriel Talabi and the Secretary of AD in that council, Mr Sunday Akindeji.

They officially dumped their old parties at the campaign rally of the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN at Oke-Agbe.


The new defectors were received by Akeredolu, his Director General of Campaign, Rt. Hon. Victor Olambitan, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, Tunji Abayomi among others.

Talabi anchored the reason for his defection on the neglect of the local government area by the outgoing PDP administration in terms of roads and other social amenities.

He stressed that they had decided to join the progressive party and also believed that if Akeredolu emerged, Akoko will not be neglected.

Abayomi promised to deliver the local government area to APC on November 26.


Speaking during the rally, Akeredolu promised to correct the mistakes of the past in the local government if APC wins the coming governorship election.

They thanked the defectors for their support and equally urged them to beware of the antics of desperadoes who are deceiving people around that APC had collapsed its structure with AD.

Meanwhile, the National Legal Adviser, Alliance for Democracy, Mr. Kehinde Aworele, has filed a suit challenging the eligibility of Chief Olusola Oke to contest as the party’s candidate in the November 26 Governorship Election in Ondo State, saying Olusola is not eligible.
