Stop politicizing urban renewal projects – Fayose tells critics

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said the demolition of structures for the execution of some urban renewal projects in Ado-Ekiti should not be seen as act of wickedness.

He has, therefore, called on his critics to stop playing politics with the issue, while appealing to the people concerned to see it as sacrifices for the overall development of the state.

He said this in Ado-Ekiti when the executive members of the Ado Progressive Union (APU) paid him a courtesy call.

In a statement on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, he quoted the governor as saying that urban renewal is seen globally as a means of revitalizing and providing modern social amenities.

?”Whatever we do now, posterity will judge us in the end. Ado-Ekiti as the capital of our state is the sitting room for the state and we need to set the pace for others to emulate tomorrow. The best of Ado is yet to come.? It is my prayer that the whole state knows that those who will lead the state are people who will consolidate on the progress being made,” he said.

The governor also frowned at the dirty habit of some people, especially those who engage in open defecation and said the government would soon tackle the menace.

He appealed to APU ?members and community leaders to support the government in executing policies and programmes by sensitizing others on the advantages of such programmes.

Fayose, who said he was humbled by the decision of APU to consider him for Award of Excellence, said he would not relent in his efforts at taking the state to greater height.

The governor disclosed that work would soon start on the rehabilitation of some roads in the town.

Earlier, ?the National President of APU, Chief Obafemi Ojo, said the team came to appreciate the governor for the great job he was doing in Ado-Ekiti and Ekiti State in general.

He described the governor as a unique person, and that he had surprised many people with his sterling performance in the face of economic recession in the country.

Ojo added that his members had gone round the projects being executed and were satisfied with the quality of job done.

He thanked the governor for agreeing to be conferred with the award and asked him to forward a date it would be bestowed on him to the group.
