EFCC intensifies investigation of past Governor, politicians in Niger Delta

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said the commission has intensified its investigation of past governors, highly placed politicians and public office holders in the South-South region.

South-South Zonal Head of the EFCC, Ishaq Salihu disclosed this during a media briefing held at the Commission’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Salihu, who categorized those under investigation as Politically Exposed Persons, said more than five hundred million naira had been recovered since investigations began.

He also disclosed that the Commission had recovered a total sum of one billion, sixty million, two hundred and fifteen thousand naira since January 2016, just as he added that twenty-six individuals had been convicted so far.

Salihu also disclosed that huge amount of funds were recovered from a Senior Lecturer at the Federal University, Otuoke in Bayelsa state, youth corpers serving Tai Local government area in Rivers state, a fake Lawyer and Internet fraudsters.

“We are going after them, but we can’t give you information about who and who we are investigating. Past politicians in the zone who tampered with public finds will not even be spared.

“We can’t mention names so that we don’t scuttle the investigation. But so far, we have recovered huge sums of money from these politicians. What is happening in this zone is mind-bugling. Be rest assure that we will not rest on our oars,” he declared.
