Okada rider gets N100,000 bail for disobeying traffic laws in Lagos

A 40-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Hameed Safaliu has been granted a N100,000 bail by an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly plying a prohibited route.
The Magistrate, Mr A. Oshodi-Makanju, who gave the ruling on Thursday, ordered him to produce two responsible sureties.

He said the sureties, who should be gainfully employed, should also show evidence of tax payment.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Kemi Adeniran, insisted that the accused committed the offence on July 27 at 4.00 p.m. on the Ikorodu-Lagos Expressway.


Safaliu pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

Adeniran told the court that the accused rode his motorcycle with registration no. SMK 117 QM on the expressway in violation of the state’s traffic laws.

“The accused knew that the road is one of the prohibited routes for motorcyclists”, she told the court.

She said the offence contravened Schedule 1, Sections 21 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State 2012.


The case has been adjourned to September 12.
