Kaduna: Jema’a community cries out as flood ravages their homes

Following the earlier warning given by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, that about 8 Local government areas in Kaduna State
will experience flood, about twenty houses were on Friday ravaged by flood in Hayi Gada, Jema’a local government.

An eye witness said the rain started at about 10 am till around 4:43pm, thereby destroying houses and property worth millions of naira.

Residents of the affected community had cried out for government to urgently come to their aid, adding that they had no place to sleep with their children.

Asemo Adekunle, one of the victims called for government immediate
intervention to rescue the affected people in view of the present reality in the country.

“We have been experiencing flood for the past 3 years,” Asemo explained.

When asked why they ignored the earlier warning by the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, advising people living around the river bank to vacate, he responded, “We did not hear warning.”
