Nigeria partners Argentina on biosafety regulations, others

Nigeria is partnering with the Argentine government to enhance biosafety regulations, Director-General, National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) Dr. Rufus Ebegba, has disclosed.

Speaking while receiving the Argentina Ambassador to Nigeria, Gustavo Dzugala, in Abuja, he hinted that the Federal Government was in the process of strengthening the biosafety system in order to harness the dividends of modern biotechnology and address concerns on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

Ebegba stressed that government was keen on diversifying the economy, hence its readiness to create the enabling environment for economic sustainability.

He expressed the desire of his agency to closely work with the Argentine government to foster existing bilateral ties between the two countries, especially in the area of modern technology.
He, therefore, conveyed government’s appreciation to the Argentine envoy for his country’s willingness to partner with the agency in the area of strengthening the biosafety legislations and capacity building through exchange programmes.
