Dickson appoints ex-militant leader, General Africa to end militancy, vandalism in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake d!ckson, in a move to flush out vandalism, militancy, sea piracy and other criminal activities from the state has appointed a former militant leader, Mr. Africanus Ukparasia, also known as General Africa.
Ukparasia is to head the state Waterway Security Taskforce, a body which has the mandate to check all forms of criminal activities along the waterways and creeks in the state.

inaugurating Ukparasia at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Yenagoa, d!ckson directed the task force to provide security agencies with the required intelligence to deal with criminal elements in the state.

Responding to his appointment, the former militant leader promised to tackle criminality in the state by ensuring adequate security and intelligence gathering along the waterways.

He vowed that criminals would no longer be allowed to take over the waterways to kill innocent people and subject travellers and traders to horrible experiences.

He warned pirates and other criminals operating in the state to leave the creeks or face tough times.

The ex-agitator also called for collaborative efforts between community and other security agencies as a means of putting an end to maritime criminal activities in the state.
