Immunity clause: APC youths pass vote of no confidence on Dogara, Bauchi NASS members

The All Progressives Party (APC) Youth Vanguard, Thursday, passed a vote of no confidence on the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, and all National Assembly members from Bauchi State for allegedly colliding with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to sabotage the anti corruption efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group also accused the Speaker and his fellow Bauchi State federal lawmakers, comprising three senators and 11 Reps members of betraying their party by backing the move to give immunity to principal officers, which would in a way shield those being tried for corruption.

The group led by its Zonal Secretary for Northeast, Tanko Umar Jakusko, said they were compelled to pass a vote of no confidence on the speaker, following his recent moves to alter the constitution to allow him and the embattled Senate President, enjoy immunity, and ostensibly stall the criminal trial of the latter at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The group stated this at a press conference shortly after holding its yearly quarterly meeting in Yola, Adamawa State.

The press statement signed by Mr Jakusko reads in full:

“We the members of the APC Vanguard have commended the giant strides of the four APC governors in the North-eastern states towards alleviating the suffering of the people and we have vowed to continue to lend support to their laudable programmes.

“It is disheartening and unbelievable watching some National Assembly members who rode on the back of APC particularly from Bauchi state now secretly romancing with opposition PDP and some suspected fraudsters to jeopardise the efforts of the federal and their state government for selfish interest.

“We have observed helplessly events of past few weeks how Bauchi state is targeted for political vandalisation and acts of sabotage by its disgruntled elected members in the national assembly for opposition to thrive against the interest of the peace enjoyed without convincing reason.

“We are aware of how Speaker Yakubu Dogara in the 2015 elections along with the PDP watered ethno-religious sentiment to flourish in his Bogoro local government area against all other APC candidates, including the President who was ‘awarded’ a paltry 13,000 votes to cover outcries against the thousands awarded to PDP candidate. All APC candidates lost in Bogoro except Yakubu Dogara which confirms our allegation of connivance with PDP and other ethno-religious jingoists.

“The same Dogara and his cohorts from Bauchi state in connivance with PDP in the House of Representatives are now the foot soldiers and megaphones of the embattled senate president, Bukola Saraki who is alleged to be a by-product of fraud.

“The ongoing romance between PDP and Bukola’s supporters in the national assembly against the popular administration of President Buhari should not be treated with soft gloves. The presidency, APC national secretariat and security agencies should act fast before the country is thrown into chaos and anarchy by some disgruntled corrupt politicians that parade themselves as democrats. The truth must be allowed to surface and stringent measures applied to serve as deterrent to future fraudsters that are trying to institutionalise fraud in our national politics”.
