Kidnappings in Idomaland: Police battle protesters in Otukpo

Officers of the Nigeria Police, Wednesday, disrupted the protest organized in Otukpo against incessant killings and kidnappings in the area.
Recall that gunmen recently kidnapped and killed the Vicar General of Otukpo Catholic Diocese, Rev Fr John Adeyi and dumped his body near a farm in Otukpa.

Also about a month ago, clashes among cult groups in Otukpo left over 14 persons dead, whereas last weekend, hoodlums shot dead 3 vigilante group members in Okpoga.


Irked by the development, a group, under the aegis of Ebo K’Idoma organized a peace protest to call the attention of the relevant authorities.

A frontline member of Ebo K’Idoma, Andy Kaggwa Obeya, said “The planned protest has been stopped by the Police. The DPO cordoned off the convergence
point and people are being harassed.

“Under the watchful eyes of this DPO and Police, the crime rates continue to increase in the town with no significant efforts to end it. Is the Police protecting lives and properties or doing the bid of the government? For how long will the people and ?their leadership be hushed while the crimes continue to escalate?

“Thanks to the DSS and the NSCDC for their support and cooperation. They acknowledged our letter and were supportive all through the process,” Obeya said.
